Marcus Sasser’s groin injury will get a well-deserved rest before UH Sweet 16 game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Marcus Sasser expects his groin injury to last through the remainder of the NCAA Tournament, but will take a few days off.

Sasser and the Cougars booked a trip to the Sweet 16 — and a few days to recover — with an 81-64 win over Auburn on Saturday night.

UH won’t play again until Friday, against No. 4 Indiana or No. 5 Miami in Kansas City, Missouri.

“I don’t know how to knock him out,” said Sasser, who scored 22 points in 31 minutes. “But I feel it will be much better.”

Sasser suffered a groin injury on March 11 in the Cougars’ semifinal victory over Cincinnati in the American Athletic Conference tournament. Lui suffered a groin injury just before halftime of UH’s NCAA Tournament opener against Northern Kentucky and did not play in the second half.

At the team hotel, around one on Friday, Sampson called Sasser’s cell phone.

“I’m playing,” Sasser told him. “And she played.”

Sasser said he felt some discomfort at times on Saturday.

“I’ve probably heard it a few times,” she said. “I was in pain. But it was pain I could take and keep pushing.”
