HISD Parents, Community Leaders Demand Answers At Chaotic TEA Forum

The first community meeting hosted by the Texas Education Agency since the announcement of Houston’s ISD acquisition turned into screams and mayhem within 15 minutes.

TEA Deputy Commissioner Alejandro Delgado took to the podium Tuesday night at Westbury High School and began giving a presentation on the selection process and responsibilities of the board of trustees soon to be appointed by the state to oversee the Houston Independent School neighborhood.

Some people in the audience immediately interrupted the presentation with shouts and requests for the TEA to answer questions from the community instead of finishing the presentation.

Delgado began answering a few questions from audience members who wrote questions on sticky notes.

“You’re trampling on our vote,” said one woman.

“Answer the question!” someone else said.

This is the first of four public forums scheduled by TEA over the next two weeks,
