Lamar High School in Arlington is in lockdown after police say a suspect has been arrested after shooting two people on campus.

The Arlington Police Department tweeted at 7:41 Monday, “This morning, we responded to Lamar High School to investigate a shooting that occurred outside the school building. The scene is secure and the suspected shooter is in custody.”

NBC 5 reports that once the lockdown is lifted, students and staff within the school will be sent home for the day. An email that says one Twitter user was sent to parents from Arlington ISD says the two injured students are receiving medical attention.

Details provided by Arlington Police via Twitter at 9:48 am stating “Around 6:55 am this morning, APD responded to the Lamar HS campus after receiving multiple reports of shots being fired outside the school building.”

Police also say the school was not open at the time of the shooting and believe the shooter did not enter the building. The shooter was taken into police custody “shortly after arriving at the scene,” APD said.

The circumstances leading to the shooting are not known at this time. Arlington Police say more information will be released when it becomes available. This story is developing.
