The Top Notch Hamburgers location opens in Hutto next week
AUSTIN (KXAN) — In an announcement Friday, the city of Hutto said the long-awaited opening of Top Notch Hamburgers in the city has been set for March 22.
“This will mark only the second Top Notch location since its original iconic location opened on Austin’s Burnet Road in 1971,” the city of Hutto said in a statement.
The drive-in burger joint became popular when it appeared in the 1993 film Dazed and Confused starring Matthew McConaughey, where it first coined the iconic phrase “It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay!”
The city said the new location will be open daily from 11am to 9pm at 121 Co-Op Blvd., serving barbecued burgers, hand-dipped onion rings, fried chicken and more.
Hutto said the lines should be expected due to Hutto’s enthusiasm for the Austin brand and the newness of the crew.
Location owner Kelly Chappell said training went well this month and added that most of the nearly 40 crew members came from Hutto as part of the local investment.
With the new staff, Chappell asked the community for extra grace and patience the first week or two the restaurant is open.
Top Notch Hutto is scheduled to host a grand opening party a week or two after it opens, and Chappell said he plans to throw an old-school hot rod event at Hutto on April 23.
Top Notch originally planned to open a Hutto location in 2019.
